According to the AASL’s Standards for 21st Century Learners, the goal of any 21st century media center should beto develop students’ abilities to “Inquire, think critically, and gain knowledge.” To that end, the Ockerman Middle School Media Center uses its available technology resources to support student inquiry and learning.

One of the ways that the media center supports this goal is by providing online databases that can be accessed 24-hours-a-day from the student’s home like Kentucky Virtual Library.  Through KYVL, students can access resources like EBSCO and NoveList.  Please ask the librarian for a username and password to use these services at home!

In addition to information services, the media center also provides technologies needed by students to engage in academic work and pleasure reading.  We have digital cameras,  video recorders, voice recorders, ebooks, scanners, Play-Away books and much more.

Developing users who are proficient with all of these different kinds of technologies and information tools creates learners who are college and career ready!
